I read other peoples' blogs like its my job and get very excited by Instagram and Pinterest posts. Seriously. I check one or all of these multiple times/day. How often do I look at ours? I almost forgot the name of the blog. That's how often. I put it on a Pinterest pin last night and it took more than a short pause for me to recall the title. Wow
My goal for the remainder of the week, is to catch the blog world up to the present...because I just know you guys are dying to know our ins and outs, right? Well here you go. Today I will cover what life was like around here in May.
Picture squiggly 'dream' waves going across your screen as your transported back in time to 7 months ago...
I work for a cruise line and it has its benefits. I was able to cruise to Bermuda for a week with my fabulous mom. It was a ladies trip and I loved it. We flew to Newark (my favorite way to get to NYC- super easy) and stayed a night in Manhattan. Something about riding a clunky train into the Penn Station makes me feel so classic NY. Oh, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't expect Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte to suddenly appear at any moment.
I was definitely in a NY state of mind very quickly. I don't know if I could live there, but I would love to visit. OFTEN.
We lucked out on the hotel stay by finding a charming, clean and affordable place online. Hotel Deauville if you're ever in the area is very highly recommended. It was built in 1907 and used as a male artists boarding house. No joke. It still has the hand operated elevator that's not recommended for any claustrophobic folks. We found a hole in the wall Italian eatery with exposed brick and amazing tomato basil pizza. It was 'take a picture of your food' good. That's saying something for me. I don't take kindly to posting my calorie intake for all the world to see.
We also saw the city in what felt like a New York minute. We went up the empire state building at night and took a petty cab ride to times square where I bought a pretzel from a street cart and an 'I heart NY' t-shirt that the letters promptly fell off of in its first trip through the washing machine.
The next day we took the subway down to the world trade center memorial site. I was imagining Seinfeld waking up to a naked guy sitting across from him on his subway ride to Coney Island. No, my life is not directed by tv shows, it just seems that my favorite ones are always based in NYC. Maybe I was a New Yorker in my previous life? I've always been dazzled by 19th century NYC like the 5 points and construction of the Chrysler building. When we walked out of the subway station I was swirling around with my jaw dropped at all the obviously french influence architecture. It was like being swept to Paris in an instant. It was another block before we found a plaque talking about the french architects that had come through over 100 years ago and designed several buildings in the area. Amazing how the world is so separated, yet we influence each other and integrate in the most unusual ways in the US. I love me some America.

A lil pic of some of the french architecture in the city

Those buildings were completely surrounded, and very closely I might add, by several other buildings. To see the smoke and then the collapse of such large buildings in such a tight space must have been harrowing. They must have felt the ground shake and I can only imagine the noise of the sirens mixed with screaming and crushing steel. Wow. I'm amazed at what that city has been through.
From NYC we boarded a ship and sailed to Kings Wharf, Bermuda for 7 days in a balcony cabin (the best way to cruise.) The weather was perfect for relaxing. It could have been a little warmer for swimming, but we weren't particularly in the mood for beaching it, so it worked out perfectly. While on the island, we went on a shore excursion to St Georges and then rented scooters to go anywhere and everywhere around the island. It was so much fun to have so much freedom. The pink sand beaches and 500 year old sandstone buildings. I loved it! I actually like Bermuda more than any Caribbean island I've seen.

It was so great to spend time with Mom and have a girls trip! Must repeat!
